WELCOME BACK TO THE GHETTO of Colorado. And yet the crowd at Memorial Hall was rather well behaved. My second time there and I lucked out both times in that regard. While I've been a fan of Robert Cray since I first saw the videos for Right Next Door, and Smoking gun, this was the first opportunity I've had to see him live. It was SO worth calling off work for. According to my confirmation email, and the web site the doors were supposed to open at 7pm. I arrived at 6:45. After picking up my ticket at the Will Call window I jumped in the way too long line to grab a couple bottles of water. It was there I learned the doors opened at 6, and the show STARTS at 7. This pretty much left me about 5 minutes to get to my seat and get wired up and sound checked....all right in front of the usher standing a few feet away in plain view. They dimmed the lights and started the preshow music within a couple of minutes of my setting up. As for the show itself......WOW...HOLY CRAP....OMG...and whatever else you can think to add to emphasize total awe. I was totally blown away. This guy is one of those acts that are far better live than within the restrictions of the studio. A very simple stage setup and show. No jumping around, no super extravagant lighting show. All talent. And the crowd ate it all up too. I DID, unfortunately have a couple of chatty bugs close by that you can hear between songs, but nothing to ruin the show itself. A special thanks to the guy who sat next to me. He gave me the impression he was going to be a noisy one until I told him I was recording. He applauded between songs and that was it. I think it was the promise he could have a copy that inspired him to contain himself (LoL). Anyway....now presented for your collecting, and listening pleasure. Enjoy.
