Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters
Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival
Clarksdale, MS
August 11, 2012
Location: about 100ft from stage in front of right stack next to VIP fence
Lineage: TASCAM STPRO>AD20(optical)>NJB3>Audacity>FLAC
NOTE:
Sometimnes it is just not meant to be and this is one of those times. Due to the large expectred crowds the security, including Homeland Security, was in force. I had planned to use my mike mast(which dou bles as a flag pole) but after two inspections by security earlier in the day (which I survived indetected) I felt I should avoid the third visit and lower my pole. This placed the mic about three ft off of the ground and more susecptable to crowd noise. \
Moreover, just as Plant was taking the stage the security people surrounded the VIP fence within a few feet of my location. This made it impossible for me to make more than a minot check to be sure the equipment was running-- and it was. My problem is the result of a faulty 9 volt battery for my digital preamp -- it failed afer about 30 minutes. And when they quit it is ugly, a little static in the feed and then .................
All that to say this: The show was excellent! Plant was in a part of the US he obviuosly loves for its' heritage and musical history. The set was laced with traditional blues covers and some Zepplin arrangements that were a departure. Plant continues to grow into musical areas that are new, yet tied to the traditional.
This show, in all of its' abbreviation, provides a sample of this version of Robert Plant. It is the first three songs prefaced by the introduction. I did not track it due to the brevity. Help yourself.
I did get a decent video of 'Forty-four' (third song here) that I may get up on YouTube. I just need some better luck
