Notes: This was our second concert in three days and our first time ever to this newly opened facility in the northern most part of Colorado Springs - not quite an hour from our house in metro Denver, so my wife and I were unsure what to expect. To our delight, getting in and out of the venue was not an issue - there is a LOT of street side parking along the outer circle of the Amphitheater and it's all just a short walk to either of the entrances.

Long before we ever knew each other, my wife and I both attended Robert Plant's concert at Red Rocks on July 4, 1988, so seeing him when he comes through town is almost a sort of ritual for us. That said, we haven't seen every show - we missed the last Plant / Krauss almost exactly two years earlier to the day, as we had a conflict and couldn't make it, so, when we heard that they would be making a second stop near us, we didn't hesitate to buy tickets.

I joke to my wife that she's not allowed within 100 feet of Robert Plant because, even at 76 years old, the guy oozes charisma and it's clear, all these years later, that the ladies still rather like him! But, I love him, too - I bought Big Log on 45 when I was in middle school, before I even knew why he was ACTUALLY famous. Someone else had commented that his voice is starting to sound "old", but, man, we thought he sounded great. And, he still has a few of those classic Percy moves and sounds - the audience was eating out of his hand. Alison Krauss is also an extremely talented singer, and has the added arrow in her quiver of being an effective fiddler, which she used to devastating effect on When The Levee Breaks. I'm not a bluegrass fan, but she definitely is an appealing artist.

We did see Robert & Alison on their initial 2009 tour at Red Rocks, which was a terrific performance. This newest album Raise The Roof (now two years later) didn't immediately strike me as being in the same league as Raising Sand, but after seeing their show at Ford Amphitheater, I'm definitely going to give it another chance. One regret: I wish I had taped the opener JD McPherson! He was great on his own and brought some needed muscle to the softer, almost haunted sounds of the rest of the band - not that they were, in anyway, slouches. What a terrific reading of the Zep classic Rock And Roll by the whole band! We'll be sure to investigate his music more thoroughly.

Outdoor venues sound better to my ears, by far, than indoor basketball arenas, but the downside is there's more of an outdoor barbeque feel - especially as the VIP section behind us have fire pits in each of the boxes (you'll hear Robert comment on them multiple times throughout the show). There was lots of drunken noise all around us as result - it wasn't horrible, but it is noticeable on the recording, which I compensated by limiting through Audacity. Generally speaking, I think this turned out quite good and will be an enjoyable listen for years to come. Especially if you were actually there.

I've also included 114 photos taken from our seats - they ain't art, but they give you an idea of the stage set-up and how the show looked from where we sat. There are two reasons why I include these: one, to keep my pictures from the particular show with the particular recording and, two, because, maybe someday, these would make a nice slideshow to remember the show. Your mileage may vary.

Finally: please don't sell the recording, but, otherwise, do with it what you wish. Share it and trade it, and remember: these and other greats will not be around forever, so, let's enjoy them while we have them. Best wishes to all of the fans out there and Namaste.
