Hi everybody - so this is the FARTHEST AWAY FROM THE stage I've been in years! I was completely hands off on tickets - basically, I pre-ordered them as a Member/Donor for the Mann Center and you never know what you actually get in the mail. And usually - clearly not always - tickets are pretty good. This time, I literally could not believe that they sent me Circle tickets. But to be fair (and less selfish!), the sound quality is miles (no pun intended) better than one gets at the Mann close to the stage.
Now, as my dear friend Joe and I entered the premises, some staff guys said 'Hey, we are here for the Pixies - just don't tell anyone!' And, honestly, we kinda thought we were too! I mean, don't get me wrong: I was a huge Led Zeppelin fan for decades, but I have not been following what Robert Plant has been doing recently and I just did not think very much about what he's gonna sound like today. Wow - I was in for quite a surprise! First, I did not expect to hear so many Led Zep tunes that I grew up with. But even less so I expected them to sound so good! And his Shifters are tight! This entire multicultural crowd of musicians gave a brilliant performance. But ultimately, I'm just gonna say: Robert still rocks the hell out of you. And… Don't let me get too carried away - but hearing him howl 'Dazed and Confused' and 'Whole Lotta Love' over this mostly open-air venue, with all the raw power of these songs - it's amazing. Makes you feel privileged. 'nuff said! I hope you enjoy this (especially after BLG's upgrades!)!
