Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters
Bluesfest
The Royal Albert Hall
London, UK
31st October 2013 (Late)

This show comes to you courtesy of my Good Friend KINGHELIOX (without whom, I would not be recording). He alone made the pilgrimage to the capital to see
the final outing (for now) of Robert's latest (and Greatest...barring the obvious???) metamorphosis. KINGHELIOX - Eye Thank Yew...

KINGHELIOX's account of the evening :

The RAH show was the last of a four gig minitour of the UK, and had a late start at 10.30pm!
Musically Robert has never been one to stand still, I've seen him play with numerous re-incarnations, line-ups, guises, re-inventions over the last twenty odd years, but these recent four gigs with the Spaceshifters count amongst the best of all the Robert Plant shows I've seen, the RAH is a venue that seems to inspire the bands that perform there, this show was no exception.
The RAH has a lot of echo, the argument always went along the lines that the classical composers could hear their orchestral compostions 'twice' over when performed at the RAH.

Please be aware this recording has a few issues! there are a number of occasions where the mikes were being repositioned and get a few knocks between the songs, the recording has more top-end than bass, I think as a result of positioning within the venue.

I think that comes across in the recording making for a muddy sound but enjoyable none the less, I was lucky that on either side of me I had people around me who 'played the game' and kept their 'noise' to a minimum to the benefit of the recording, (many thanks, you know who are!) the overall background crowd noise in this instance adds to the intact 'atmosphere' of the show.
The Spaceshifters are a wonderful band, a highly talented line-up of high class muscians who deliver a set of highly potent songs, and they all seemed to be playing their hearts out for the last show of the tour, the show had a brisk pace, and the enthusiatic crowd and the band seemed to carry each other along, to a conclusion that came far too quickly.
The songs are very rich, there is a lot going on above and below the surface, a complex sound fusion which breathes fresh life into the standards, Robert like many of his contemporaries has been canny enough to revisit old songs in a new way, and the 'world felt young again' when I listened to What is, Babe I'm gonna, Going To California, Rock Roll and Four Sticks, it carries you back to your youth, you can't help but smile way down inside!
It's why we keep going back again and again for more! Long may the 'Journey' continue.
This show was more akin to a meeting of old friends, as if everybody who was there (especially the Band) wanted to be there, were glad to be there, and looking around at the crowd during the set, and on the way out, there were a lot of people with a happy 'afterglow' who had enjoyed the end of the tour 'party'.
I hope you enjoy the show as much as everyone else did.

I do hope there are other posts of this show, the more views we have the more complete the picture!
Support the Artists, buy the product, and attend the Show's, you know it makes sense!
