A huge thanks to the stupid security goon at the door to the
Riviera, who caught me with my recorder and camera, requiring me
to put my gear in my car and go at it sans any electronics. It
would've been the first concert in nearly twenty years that I hadn't
recorded. The 2nd attempt at entry found me with a total buffoon at
the front door. This inspired me, with buccaneer spirit, to go
back to my car and get my gear. Once jocked, I tried a third time
to enter the Riviera -- only to be met by the first goon (who
found my stuff). He smiled at me and said, "I see you're back" to
which I (nervous as hell) said I was clean as a baby. He smiled and
did a totally inadequate pat search of me, missing my gear entirely.
Whew! Afterward, I stopped and thanked him and told him what a great
job he's doing, that I've been recording concerts for decades and he's
the first security guard who'd ever caught me with my stuff. He
shook my hand (!!!) and said thanks, and that he'd been doing his job
for twenty-some years. I replied that he was polite, and a gentleman
with me during my earlier confrontation and thanked him again. All
the while, I have my gear hidden in my crotch. Again, he smiled,
said thanks, and shook my hand a 2nd time. I then waltzed in & made
a great recording from 12' feet from the stacks. So, this is in
tribute to him.
