Robert Randolph and the Family Band at the Redhook Brewery, Portsmouth, NH, August 09, 2007, audience recording.
This was recorded with Sony TCS-580V (cassette recorder with built-in stereo mics). TDK CDPower 110 (high bias) went from Onkyo TA-RW313 into Audigy Soundblaster SE. Track markings and cdrs made with Magix Music On CD And DVD program. Wav made with Roxio Easy Media 8, flac with Flac Frontend.
The quality on this gets a B. I'd say B+, but there's a bit of a drop-out during tracks 6 through 8. Apparantly, one of the channels got a bit quiet, seemingly because of the tape itself, maybe the recorder. I boosted the levels a little for those tracks. Even still, just turn it up, and it still sounds good. Most of the show was recorded from about ten feet from Danyel and the big speaker next to him, but I left my recorder with my wife and friends on the hill for a few minutes of the recording (notably "The March" - sound quality is possibly better on the hill).
This may have been my favorite Randolph show yet. Very cool venue, lots of good affordable beer, perfect weather, and an amazing performance. The memory of Robert sitting upside-down on his chair and clapping his feet and hands will stay with me forever. It was also his birthday. If anyone can title the unknown titles, I'd appreciate it. Tape flips occur after 05 and 08 - fits on two discs 1-5 and 6-10.
I'm sure there's a better recording of this out there, but I hope this is enjoyed by all. Do what you want with this, but don't sell it, and give me credit. Better mics are in my near future... Peace!
