::: VERY fine master AUD. Check samples for self determination or a little taste of the fish.
::: Warts: NOT MANY! Some level issues, mostly all fixed. Few spots of crowd talk (eg start o' #14), but it AIN'T a problem.
::: Please note reseed requests in with the samples, thanks.
Recording Information ::: Sony D-6 portable cassette recorder, single Sennheiser 300 microphone with shotgun shell y-jacked into both channels (mono) -> master Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette, Dolby B on.
Playback 2013-10-xx ::: master Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & speed adjusted (pitched!) for individual recording, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) -> computer -> Audacity (normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch / dropout / bump / pop / click / dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, additional speed correction +1% averaged, NO equalisation) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded week of 2013-11-23.
Further mastering notes: Man, these old style gold laminate sticker XLII-S 90 cassettes have really stood the test of time overall. This one woulda prefered I'd offered it some new pinch rollers & felt pad, but it did fine none-the-less. After working on whatever issues I could find & fix, I decided that the occasional fluctuation I couldn't fix from tape aging issues would be best served by using just the left channel. The recording is mono anyway. The tape sounded f'ing excellent on my stereo at high volume with some treble, warm & full-bodied, but sounded a tad muffled when I got it on the headphones. So, crank 'er up with a bit of the old high end juice & you should be good to go.
Line-up ::: Robyn Hitchcock - electric guitar, vocals // Roger Jackson - keyboards, backing vocals(?) // Chris Cox - electric bass, backing vocals(?) // Morris Windsor - drums, backing vocals.
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
CoolSonics 281 ::: Thanks to the original taper, yours truly... ::: Corrections welcome ::: Here's one for 'Mongrel Puppy' Passa, with whom I did attend, and to Jim Neill, still carrying a great music torch. Another master I made that I'd totally forgotten about for many the year, tho' I certainly hadn't forgotten the show. Couldn't get much better for a setlist for me. Not much from this USA tour about (was there much of a tour?). The night before at Irving Plaza is one of the few & with a very similar setlist. I think this is pretty damn rippin'. Coulda bin longer at the time for the 4 hours of drivin' involved but I'm sure some vinyl was happily acquired. If you like this vintage Royn, yr in for a treat. ENJOY!
Kudos to Zongo for life support, Lochner for mikes&more & Fast Freddie for runnin' Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace). Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Dixon, Moore, Gough & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Parrish & all the traders who housed me thru my music acquisition & travel years. Hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Little Queenie (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Glasses raised to Byron for musical horizon expansion & much obliged to J & Thurston for keepin' my concert fires burnin' since my continental shift. Thanks to the Mods for keepin' DIME alive. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
