The Rockin' Revols from Stratford, Ontario, were Richard Manuel's first group. Richard joined them as pianist and lead singer in 1957, together with his friend and drummer Jimmy Winkler. Other members were John Till (later of Janis Joplin's Full Tilt Boogie Band) and Garth Picot on guitar, Ken Kalmusky on bass and singer Doug Rhodes. Only a few demo recordings with the Revols exist. Richard Manuel and John Till wrote "My Eternal Love" in Richard's living room in 1957. It was recorded at CKSL Radio studios in London Ontario. There are two more songs from that session, a tune Richard wrote called "Promise Yourself" and an instrumental Richard played of a rock and roll version of the classical song "Liebestraum"
