Good audience recording from Rod's 1998 When We Were The New
Boys tour. I'd give it about a B, or an 8-. Rod is in a fantastic mood
thanks to the audience. They are loving the show, and he comments on how
well the crowd is, especially for a Sunday night.
The best part of the show is definately the rarely played BROKEN ARROW.
A hard song to do live, it doesn't sound spectacular but if you're a Rod fan it's
very nice to have a live version especially during the 1998 tour (as far as I know
the only times he's played that song live was during the 1992 leg of the Vagabond
Heart tour). He also tries to play the full version of the song, unlike the Vagabond
tour where he only played the first 2 verses.
Also of interest is ROCKS. Apparently the local radio station (which Rod forgets the
name of) did a contest to "sing on stage with Rod Stewart". A trio of girls won, and
they get to join him for ROCKS in which they sing the chorus. Interesting, as he usually
doesn't do stuff like that.
The only other thing to note is the fact that he plays TWISTING THE NIGHT AWAY in the
middle of the show instead of at the end. This was unusual for this tour (and for most tours-
he usually plays it at the end or encores with it) and as far as I know is the only show
in this tour he does this.
Other than that it's pretty much a solid show and a standard set list for that leg of that
tour. If you don't have and are a Rod far I'd definately recommend, if nothing else just to
have a live version of BROKEN ARROW. Enjoy!
