Rolling Stones
01/21/2003 (First Night)
The Center, Chicago, IL
This is in memory of Allen Klein. May he forever scrape the shit right off his shoes.
Recorded by Roy in an enthusiastic audience in the 2nd tier, far stage left/house right using a set of
Sound Professionals Premium Binaural Mics onto MiniDisc using a Sony MZ-R30.
Transferred 07/04/2009 from master MDs (Sony MZ-R30 > analog > Zoom H2 @ 44.1kHz/16-bit).
Opening/closing fades added using Cool Edit Pro. No other sonic adjustments have been made.
Chopped up using CD Wave Editor. Mastered to fit onto 2 CD-DA discs.
SBEs corrected using Trader's Little Helper. Logfiles included. ("-fixed" removed from filenames)
Encoded into FLAC (Level 7) using Trader's Little Helper.
Holy Shit was it cold and super windy this night! I nearly froze to death walking a couple
blocks from my parking spot into the United Center. It's not my finest recording. There's
quite a bit of WOOHOOs and whistling going on. (What the hell else do you expect at a Stones
concert?) It's not an absolutely perfect recording. Those who demand a perfect audience capture
should immediately delete this and run into the bathroom and wash their hands using hot water and
the anti-bacterial soap of their choice.
This is one of the Stones' best setlists, ever! This is the only time I've seen them open
with "YGMR" and end the show on the b-stage. I remember Keef exploding from darkness onstage with
the opening riffs for the encore ("JJF"). Su-fuckin'-perb concert! It was a gas gas gas indeed!
