Royden "Chuch" Magee was the long-time backline crew chief
for the Stones, first working for Ronnie Wood in the early
70s while he was still with The Faces. Chuch was a native
of Michigan and spent his non-touring time in the small town
of Marquette on the shores of Lake Superior. He was as loved
there as he was by his employers, and when he passed away of
a heart attack during rehearsals for the "Forty Licks" tour,
his two worlds joined together to pay their respects.

The Stones flew in, spent some time at the historic hotel now
known as The Landmark Inn, checked out the local historical
society museum, and even poked around in the large Peter White
Public Library. They gathered at the funeral and all but
Charlie got up to perform an instrumental version of "Amazing
Grace," heard here. Mick is tough to hear on this recording
but performed on harmonica. To provide the full account of
the service, I've also included here the other acoustic
performances from that afternoon by some local musician
friends of Chuch, highlighted by "I'll Fly Away."

This was a private moment for Chuch's many family and friends,
but I figure enough time has passed to offer it to the rest
of the world as a tribute to one of the great men who, day in
and day out, made sure the rock shows went on without a hitch.

To Chuch. R.I.P.
