if anyone cares (I would), the microphone should be Sony ECM 929LT
I downloaded the previous night, and it was a great recording of a mostly great gig
I believe this should be the same

thanks for the mic info - i think you may have said that in the 6/21 comments too (i forget)? i'm still just leaving it as "? came with deck" in the comments for frank's shows since he doesn't even know though!
yes, the sound on this one is very nice, maybe even better than the previous night
and stay tuned, i am working on another show he recorded from one week later, should be similar quality as well!!

Some mastering notes:
- I had to do some doctoring to fix a few minor dropouts and balance/level problems (EG: there was a 3 minute section towards beginning of BAD PENNY where the right channel had some problems), along with the usual cassette flip splices. No EQ or anything like that was done to change the overall sound itself; I feel that is better left to the individual listener. There is a slight hiss/buzz on the tape, but I think that is an amplifier thing and part of the "music" rather than a tape issue.
- Since this show was recorded on MAXELL MA C-90 "metal" bias tapes which support higher levels than CrO2 tapes without distoring, the taper had his levels very cranked for most of this show. On my deck used to transfer this the levels were peaking above the 6dB maximum! To keep in the spirit of the original recording while mastering this very "hot" show I tried to set the peaks as high as I could without digitally clipping, at about 0dB, during the Analog --> Digital conversion via my Tascam DA20mkII. This was not an attempt to give you a headache with maximized levels and compression like many official CDs do today. I think I achieved my goal but any constructive criticism is welcome. This isn't perfect by any means though, there are areas with volume swells/drops and I couldn't fix everything. It is what it is, just listen and (hopefully) enjoy.
Artwork: 300 dpi artwork included in Torrent, using some of my photos from the 1982 Ripley Music Hall show
I also included my artwork for the previous evening's show from the same venue, and if you want to make a box set out of both shows just use the back cover of each of those on a fatboy case modified for 5 CDs, or modify it anyway you want to suit your own collecting tastes (or shelf room!).

Comments:
A few months ago I upped the Rory show from the previous night at the Chestnut Cabaret, 6/21/85, which I also mastered from a Frank C source. I was at that show but did not remember there being a show the next night, but it was something that folks asked about in the torrent comments.
Long story short, I confirmed with Frank the taper that there was a second night, and that he taped it! So here 'tis, fresh out of the mastering oven so to speak.
Listening to this show now, I hope I was there and just forgot to write it down in my concert log, because this is one show not to be missed! Rory and the band are on fire, and some of the songs are drawn out with long jams that have all kinds of riffs and song fragments (like the Peter Gunn riff for instance, which shows up at least twice). It sounds like the band must've enjoyed playing and jamming as much as the audience did just being there. I think they must have wanted to play all night - and maybe they did, but unfortunately the tape ran out! I think this happens right at the very end though, which at 170 minutes ain't exactly a short set.
As far as the setlist goes it is similar to the previous night but has some interesting differences. It has some of my favorites like SECRET AGENT and BIG GUNS which we didn't get the previous night. And how about SHINKICKER getting played not once but twice!!!!!!! Was Rory was just messing around tuning up and broke into that riff and they just started playing it again? The second version is only about 2 minutes long, but that is a very cool 2 minutes. I wonder if he just forgot they already did it then remembered and stopped? Or if somebody up front asked him to do it again, or what?? Somehow he managed to ignore the guy yelling all night for CATFISH though.
I'd like to dedicate this show to a big Rory fan, Dave Rodebaugh, who passed away recently. I last saw both Dave and the taper Frank at the Chris Duarte show at Sellersville in November '08. We were talking about past Rory shows and Frank confirmed that he had this one. Dave chimed in that not only was he there, but that he hung out backstage at one or both of the '85 Chestnut shows and that after the show there was a jam session backstage, and that he got to jam with Rory himself! I wish I could ask Dave now to repeat the story since I'm afraid I don't remember the exact details, but I think part of it was that Rory was on harmonica and that he handed Dave Tommy Conwell's guitar to join in with (Tommy's band were the opening act). R.I.P. Dave, maybe you can play with Rory again in that big jam session in the sky.
Once again, thanks to Frank for taping this show and loaning me his master tapes to share with you all. Also thanks to "The Dude" for being the go-between and delivering Frank's tapes to me to work on.
Enjoy!
