Comments:
Taper's show description & comments follow:
The "Lone Star Cafe" and the "Bottom Line" were my two fave venues in New York City, and about the only ones where I could see a show early enough to be able to make the last train back home to New Jersey. The "Lone Star" was in an old row home. Very narrow and deep. The stage was more in the front of the place, across from the bar, and in a lot of the club, sightlines were poor. I always booked a seat early in the balcony right above the bar, looking straight down on the stage.
Normally, there were two shows, but for Rory, there was one long show. I met Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O'Neil at the bar prior to the show, and had them autograph a couple of albums for me. I loved the show, and they played for nearly 2 1/2 hours. I already knew that I would miss the last train, so I took the next day off from work, planning to get a 5AM train back home. I hung around the club as long as I could, until I was asked to leave. Me and another guy waited outside for a few hours until Rory emerged, and we had him autograph some stuff for us. It was a decision I've always been very happy with. Rory was a very nice guy, and a great musician.
