comments:
This was a nice show, nice enough apparently in performance and
quality that someone traded me his master aud of the next night in
Boston for a tape copy of this. (I'm posting both) Now nobody needs
tape copies of either. I thought there were some parts where they
sounded better in Boston, other parts better in this one, this is a
much better sounding recording than that but there are a few
different songs (and Roxy Music has a bunch that sound great in concert).
They both have a nice rendition of Like a Hurricane. This one is missing
just a few seconds for 1 tape flip, in "impossible guitar". You may not even
notice it. The static is marginal, only in a few parts noticable at all,
and the music comes through well throughout (good sound mix and broadcast
on a station with a strong signal and high-elevation transmitter tower).
All but the sound-fussiest Roxy fans- or someone with a perfectly clean copy,
are going to enjoy hearing this. The static is of a low volume and only
noticable in a few parts, not all through the show. I've felt no great need
to find an upgrade, still enjoy listening to this one. Since the planned
1980 Roxy U.S. tour did not happen (as far as I know) this was Roxy's 1st
U.S. tour in 4 years. The New York crowds love Roxy Music, and gave them a
very warm reception this time too (as usual). This torrent will fit on 3
discs with the Boston following night one I have, if you put the disc 1
of NYC with disc 2 of Boston. That's how I have it. There are fades in
the needed places for that, (or seperate discs). Boston 83 was not posted when
this first was, but this time (2009) it will be posted soon after, since it
was the day after this nationally broadcasted show.
I think both of those are whole shows. I wasn't in any rush to post the Boston
5/27/83 show because the sound is very hollow and echoey at the venue, so the
sound quality of the recording is not very good but I do have it from the master
tape if anyone is that Boston-Roxy-desperate. I have yet to find any earlier
Boston shows than the 76 and 79 Orpheum shows posted in 2007 here on dime by
another uploader (those are both nice, better quality than what I had), and one from
75 from a Joe Maloney aud. I would love to find any ones before that. Boston loves
Roxy Music. New York City does too, and Roxy likes NY too as is evident in this show.
This show was posted previously by another uploader here on dime but this is an
upgrade over that one (which was a "matrix" source, part from a vinyl source) and
first seeded from me and my own source recording in 2008.
