*** Note that the guest sit-ins I've noted above are best guesses based upon my listening and Russell's onstage banter. It's pretty likely that Eric Krasno sat in on some other songs. And how many songs Oteil played on is somewhat unclear to me.

There are some bad problems with Jason's vocal mic on track 13
The first 5:15 of this show is slightly distorted. For some reason I had my mic levels too hot and they were distorting. I can't remember sure why this happened. I did my best to repair it with Sound Forge's "Clipped Peak Restoration" tool, so it's very listeable; but once you get past the 1st 5 minutes, it's generally clean sounding (except for occasional on-stage audio/mix glitches that were ouside of my control).

The band, as introduced by Russell:
Kenny Kane - bass
Tom Fitzpatrick - tenor sax
MC - trumpet
909 - tenor
Kako - keyboards
Page McConnell - keyboards
KC Jr Ian - guitar
Rita Batiste, Tiffany Jackson - vocals

Transferred, Mastered, and Tracked by Scott Bernstein (5/15-20/2010).

Taper notes:
OK, for my next installment in my BARN "New Orleans Jazzfest Appreciation" mini-series -- #42, I present this nice set from Russell Batiste and Friends for you. This was an interesting night at the Howlin' Wolf -- lots of special guests rotating in and out. Frankly, we went to this show for the Global Noize set (which they promoted by announcing Billy Martin, DJ Logic, Oteil Burbridge, Karl Denson, Topaz, and others -- a set with a lot of potential, having an A-List set of musicians all playing outside of their elements), but the opener wound up being this Russell and Friends set, which had some of the same guests but many others. Frankly, I felt completely satisifed that I had seen a great show after this set, and the Global Noize set was gravy. In fact, I think I even enjoyed this set more than the Global Noize set, as it was a lot funkier, whereas the GN set was more jazzy. Either way you'll get to decide for yourself as I'm going to post both for you to listen to.

The night is a little tiny bit of a blur for me, so I can't recall why I let the levels overload for the 1st 5 minutes, and I also can't recall exactly which guests sat in on which songs (though I've made a good stab at it), so if your memories are better than mine, please help out.

Enjoy!

Scott
