In 2023 we kicked off series of releases from a long time West Coast taper/collector that had passed away. He transferred his extensive archives to CDR years prior to his passing and passed them on to a close friend. His friend has been involved in the Bay area music scene for the last five plus decades and understood the importance of getting these historic shows out to the collector's community. We are working closely him reviewing the shows for both unreleased and upgrades.

Our 27th release (I accidentally skipped noting a release at some point and this actually makes 27 but since we aren't officially labeling no update neededed on the downloaders end) is a an upgrade to the June 13, 1970 8PM and 11PM shows.

There appears to be some date confusion and misidentification around these shows, these two shows circulate as the following dates; June 13th (First & Second Show), June 14th (First Show), October 14th.

There appear to be only two actual performances that circulate from Port Chester in 1970, Santana did not play Port Chester on June 14th so we know any shows dated June 14th are incorrect, this is supported by the included newspaper ad and they flew to the UK with the next show being June 16th in London. The circulating October 14th show matches the show labeled here as June 13th second show, there is also a circulating June 13th show labeled as second show that is the same as the first show.

There were two shows played on the October 14th based on available ticket stubs.

We are hoping this release helps clear up some of this confusion or is at least good circumstantial evidence of what actually is available. Based on the original source of these shows we are fairly confident this is June 13th First & Second shows, these were marked as June 13th (CD1 and CD2), all other sources lineage ranges from 3rd generation to unknown generation.

The circulating editions are excellent but these have a more open and airy quality about them and a wide frequency field as well as almost no hiss.

Also, on the previous edition the first show has a rough splice at 3:28 in Jingo, the version also has the splice (from a small gap) but it is close to seamless in our version.

There are a number of folks we are indebted to for access to this exciting archives, the anonymous West Coast collector, may he rest in peace, his friend that had the motivation and understands the need to get these historically important shows into circulation before they were lost forever and a huge thanks to dime member 'davmar77'. He did not currently have the bandwidth to facilitate such an undertaking at this time and put us in touch...this is how dime should work.

As always thanks to Goody, our pitch master, for his continued to support of these historic releases, he does extra duty on this series of releases helping confirm the setlists and edits, extra thanks go out to him for this continuing critical assistance!

Over the past year or so, we've unfortunately had a number of long time tapers/collectors shuffle off this mortal coil, fortunately many had the foresight to secure their archives with friends and collectors so they could be properly released and enjoyed by generations to come.

Fellow tapers and collectors don't wait until it's too late to get those archives out into circulation, please get in touch, there are plenty of us here that can help get your hard work into circulation...no tape left behind!
