Boston Globe review:
"Carlos is God," proclaimed a gray-haired gent loudly about halfway through the opening song, "Soul Sacrifice," last night during Santana's sold-out show at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion.
There was no arguing that point, as Carlos Santana's intricate guitar lines cut through explosions of percussion, trumpet, trombone and organ. He truly is a guitar god, one of popular music's premier players, and he has been since his band's 11-minute instrumental "Soul Sacrifice" wowed the crowd at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair nearly 46 years ago to the day.
Looking fit and trim, his trademark black hat sitting comfortably upon his head, Santana, at 68, has lost none of his fire or prowess. One gets the sense the guy simply loves to play guitar. Who wouldn't, when backed by the 10 musicians who create a tsunami of Latin-tinged rock behind him every night. Unlike many guitarists, Carlos doesn't coast or boast or dominate, he humbly takes his place on stage among the others and lets loose when needed. And when he lets loose it's something special. He is a wonder....
