boombox's notes february 2017:

My third time seeing Sarah and she has never disappointed - too many superlatives come to mind when considering her songwriting, singing and especially her playing. The set was heavy on the new album but she's clearly mixing up her setlists from show to show, so with four albums plus covers, she was always going to leave out someone's favourite. She featured a new trio line-up this tour and Jeff Picker and Anthony Da Costa proved perfect foils for her. I'd hoped Anthony would do the support slot, having discovered him last year when he played the supporting role to Aoife O'Donovan on her tour. He told me afterwards there is a possibility of his touring here - go and see him if he does. Support for this show came from talented Pennsylvanian singer-songwriter Dietrich Strause, who is no mean guitar player himself from what we saw. He reminded me a little of a more contemporary Phil Ochs and needless to say both his albums found their way into my collecion on the night.

Sound at The Tunnels is always good, but the PA is a little quiet, meaning the mics pick up every creaky chair or movement in the taper's vicinity. I had to reduce the applause levels by 6db before bringing the levels up with just the tiniest bit of compression due to some rogue peaks in both artists' sets. I've reduced the odd really loud clap and glass drop and excised a couple of bouts of taper coughing (it was only during applause!), but not tried to reduce the volume on the "gunshot clapper" near me as it sounded too artificial; as usual, 24bit files are available for anyone who wants to remaster.

Two different artworks for this too as, because the lighting was so bad, I tried a few b&w with the film grain setting - hides a multitude of sins!
