Blues guitarist and longtime Buddy Guy sideman Scott Holt was born June 26, 1966, in Lawrenceburg, TN; he did not begin learning guitar until the age of 20, but proved a quick study, seeking his earliest inspiration in the music of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Ultimately, Holt's chief influence was Buddy Guy, whom he first met after a show in 1987; the two collaborated infrequently in the months to follow, and in the autumn of 1989, Holt was invited to join Guy's band. Three years later, he formed his own group, the Scott Holt Band, to hone his chops during Guy's breaks from the road; in 1998 he cut his first headlining album, Messing with the Kid, followed a year later by Dark of the Night. Angels in Exile appeared in spring 2001.
