TheCommish notes:
Some nights there's just TOO much good live music to take in. Such was the case on April 9: The Ben Vaughn Quintet was playing an early (8:30pm) show at Maxwell's in Hoboken--meanwhile, Roxy and Dukes had a tasty-looking twinbill of surf rock featuring The Octomen and The Sharkskins.

By the time my brother and I got from Hoboken to Dunellen, we unfortunately missed the entire Octomen set...and The Sharkskins had already hit the stage when we pulled into the parking lot. Fortunately, based on the setlist that I grabbed after the show, it looks like we only missed one complete song since we walked in during Dick Dale's "Miserlou."

I've only known about The Sharkskins for a month or so, and it was simply because a buddy at work mentioned that he saw them open for Los Straitjackets at The Record Collector (in Bordentown, NJ) back in March. Well, let me tell you, these guys can play! After the show, I told one of the guys in the band that although this was my first time seeing them, it most certainly won't be my last!

The whole band looked and sounded great, but my brother and I were especially impressed with their drummer, Tommy Tsunami, who was literally POUNDING THE CRAP out of his kit the entire show. Great energy, great show...go out and see them!

If you like this torrent, won't you please take a moment to post a comment on the board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run.
