Shemekia Copeland and Robert Cray
State College, PA - March 29, 2010
The State Theater

AUD - orchestra left

Sound Quality: A-

The minus because of the chatty neighbors to my left (who also bumped my recorder twice in the course of the evening) -- but they settled down after the first two Copeland numbers and were pretty quiet throughout Cray's performance.

This small theater has great acoustics and no bad seats. Both artists and their bands were in great form and good humor this night. Cray, who likes to drop the name of the town in which he's playing into the lyrics of "Phone Booth" got us mixed up with a college town in Texas, but that happens a lot. In response to his asking the crowd if they were alright, someone in the audience asked him how he was doing. "I have to sing all these things," he answered -- things about pain and heartbreak, "and me" he added -- then quipped, "but thanks for asking."

Sorry to say I missed the last part of the encore. Memory ran out while Cray was playing "Time Makes Two."
