The influential Louisville band Slint rolled into town for the first time in more than half a decade, fueled by continued and growing fan interest in the progenitors of so much of what came after them in “math rock” and the wider world of indie music. Spiderland, treated to a deluxe re-release this year, may not have moved many units, but its greatness reverberated far beyond what its sales figures would suggest.

This night at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn tracked the Bowery Ballroom set from two days earlier (and I suspect the Wick set from the day before) to a song, and that is likely to be the case for most of the May run. Joined by, among others, Matt Jencik of Implodes on bass, the original cast of three made their earlier work proud, giving a dialed-in performance that had the old-school heads and curious first-timers equally pumped.

My recording is a prime example of what a good stealth tape can be — up front, in the middle, live and in your face. Even compared to tapes I’ve made with more elaborate setups, I’d say the sound quality on this is pretty damn close to flawless. There’s one volume adjustment upward during “Breadcrumb Trail”, and you can hear the unique cheering style of the dude behind me and to the right between songs, but even he is all part of the fun. If you have any interest whatsoever in the band, this is one you shouldn’t miss. And if you haven’t heard of them, or heard Spiderland, I suggest you fix that. Enjoy!

**I don’t really care if you listen to this on MP3s (I will be), but I would appreciate it if you don’t post it, in any form, to other sites on the Internet, or mess with my fileset or text file. Thanks.**
