Another great recording from the "Holy Mountain", 2nd edition on the then "new ground" with two stages. This was most likely recorded deep in the night, judging from the intro talks to
a few songs. That year's festival was dominated by those "new progressive" bands, as on the main stage extended shows of SPOCK'S BEARD or FLOWER KINGS took place, as well as a noon (!)
show by MAGMA, the first of three yet.
But this show is something different. It features a great progressive psychedelic folkrock band from Norway, the SMELL OF INCENSE. Though the band might be still active on and off in
their homecountry, information on the net seems rather hard to get by. Their official homepage is down, and the few infos for providing the setlist were found on "progarchives".
Still, after almost 15 years gone by, the music sounds fresh and of an upbeat positive vibration to my ears. Besides their mostly original tunes, there are a few nice covers from the
INCREDIBLE STRING BAND, SOFT MACHINE or a well known early PINK FLOYD song. And, uh, before I forget: A great rendition of JEFFERSON AIRPLANE's White Rabbit...way cool!
