::: VERY fine studio tapes with slight generational/aging/hiss issues. Check samples for aural insight or to make the flowers start blooming.
::: Warts: Not many, but got some hiss (louder at track starts&ends), slight muffling, & surely missed some dullspots (repaired most but a few in #3 not totally fixable).
::: Surfaced in early 80s with Barry Melton & Mickey Hart unissued albums, all '72-74 & Snooky's likely recorded over 1-3 months within one of those years.
::: (*) No actual album title on tape. "Mr. Love" is the very hip first song & I took liberties & used it for the unissued album name.
::: #6 had no title so it's a guess. (May also be "Trying To Survive", "Cry If You Still Love Me", or ?). If you know better, do tell.
::: Snooky is also seen spelled 'Snookey' & occasionally 'Snookie'.
::: Someone MUST be able to upgrade the circulating Hart/Melton/Flowers & other unissued Rolling Thunder sessions. PLEASE consider layin' them on us.

Recording Information ::: master multi-track reels -> master 2-track stereo mixdown reels -> unknown analog generations (my cassette pre-dates DAT) -> unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

First uploaded week of 2014-01-04.

Line-up (mostly unknown/unconfirmed - Be sure some of the cream of the Marin County Grateful Dead & friends scene are playing here.) ::: Cornelius "Snooky" Flowers - lead vocals, baritone saxophone (2 songs?) // Jerry Garcia - lead electric guitar (#1?, 5#?, ?), pedal steel guitar (#8) // ? - lead electric guitars // ? - rhythm electric guitars // ? - keyboards // // Merl Saunders(?) - organ (#7 & ?) // ? - electric bass // Steve Schuster(?) - flute (#7), horns? // Mickey Hart(?) & ? - drums, percussion // ? - female background vocals // Rodney Albin and/or ? - violin (#7, #9) // ? - synth? (track 6 only) // NOTE : Certainly musician line-up changes between some songs & is a work in progress. What are your guesses? Other guitarist possibilities that come to mind - Robbie Stokes, Paul Pena, Jim McPherson.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 016 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: WOW! If you get thru listening to this one on the stereo with some volume & attention paid as part of the program, I'd be more than shocked if you aren't reeling with some amazement & respect & wondering where it's been. Reminds me a lot of Paul Pena's "New Train" album, a kind of hip amalgam of funk-affected hip rock with a LOT going on but stated in a cool way without overt moves or overload (or many horns...). It's incredibly consistent & never falls down or sells itself out anywhere. Has a distinct Merl Saunders vibe in places, a touch of the Meters, a heavy Bay Area vintage sound & superb guitar interplay. Enjoy!

Discography & more ::: Snooky was an integral member of Janis Joplin's Kozmic Blues Band who recorded "I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama!" (& plays on all Janis releases with trax by that band), He played on Bob Weir "Ace", Robert Hunter "Tales Of The Great Rum Runners", Michael Bloomfield & friends "Live At Bill Graham's Fillmore West", Luis Gasca "For Those Who Chant", Nick Gravenites "My Labors" & surely a number of others. Snooky & The Kozmic Flowers have 2 trax on the "Golden State Funk" compilation. Part V of Canned Heat's song "Parthenogenesis" is entitled "Snooky Flowers" - a nod to the man. In '69 Snooky played Woodstock Festival with Janis & Atlantic City Pop Festival with Canned Heat & jammed with Hendrix at Newport Pop Festival. On Kozmic Blues Band videos he is clearly helping direct the musicians on stage. He's been in various bands over the past 40 years.
