This guy rocked out the crowd with his mean guitar skills. He came off as a gentleman and the show was fantastic.
As this is a festival setting, the second set started after an hour break and after another performance on the adjacent stage.
Sonny started the second set out on the lap steel. At the very beginning of the second set, Sonny didn't wait for the
stage lights to come up or for the Jazz Fest girl to do her announcement, and was talking to the crowd. This is
barely audible as the PA wasn't on and his voice was just coming through the monitors. The soundman got wise to
what was going on pretty quickly and fired up the PA. One of the things that he mentioned was the incredible
talent of Dessa, who's show just prior had finished only moments before.
During the second set, I accidentally hit stop at the 6:05 mark while I was trying to turn on the display light to
check my levels and before I put the deck on hold. I knew exactly what I had done and as soon as the few seconds it
takes to finalize the recording was done, it was back recording. I probably missed less than 4 seconds. This is
joined seamlessly, and really can't be heard on the recording.
Another great show by a superb performer. Towards the end of his second set he went into the crowd and played in
the front few rows, to the delight of the audience.
