This is an upgrade. The previous version (seeded in 2012) was DAT Master > CD > wav > flac. I like this show so much that I wanted to preserve and share the best copy possible.

Attached are images of the ticket stub and a clipping from Metroland (local free paper) about the show.

Here's the story of this tape.

I'm a Deadhead and the Grateful Dead taught me (indirectly) how to tape live music. Months before the show my friend Jake told me he would buy my ticket if I recorded the show. Sonny Rollins was his favorite saxophone player. I told him "Sure". He was going to the box office when the tickets went on sale to get front row seats and asked me the location of a good taping seat. This is an acoustically perfect hall and I said "the middle of the middle of the middle".

A couple months later the Grateful Dead show in nearby Albany was announced and it was on the same night. Oh well, I told Jake I would tape Sonny Rollins, so no big deal.

So we get to the show and my taping seat is right next to the soundboard. Immediately next to the soundboard, so close that no matter how stealthy I acted, they would notice me. The show started and I didn't tape the first set.

Depressed about missing the Dead and upset that I would let Jake down, I figured I'll go to the balcony and at least salvage a recording of the second set. So I go up to the last row in the balcony and all my friends from Slipknot (legendary local Dead band) are there. I thought "wow, Slipknot people are here instead of at the Dead show, I'm in the right place".

My mood totally changed. I recorded the second set and it's one of my favorite sets of music of all time. I missed probably my only chance to see the Dead perform "Casey Jones" but it was well worth it.
