This show was in a packed basement..
I never planned on seeding it but it is here by popular demand..

A few fades were added due to Papa unplugging my rig and
bitching at me for taping. Papa wasn't so taper friendly back then.

From Michael Franti:
We got to Steamboat at about 1 in the afternoon and hit the mountain
for a little boarding (with my new helmet on). I met up with three locals who took me to the top of the mountain. We
hiked a few hundred yards across a ridge and strapped in to ride down. I asked,? doesn't that rope we're going over
mean don't ride here?? ?Yea?, they said,?let's go!? So off we went through the trees and down some really steep terrain.
At one point it was so steep I had to sit on my ass and just slide down through 75 feet through 3 feet of snow.
Eventually we made it down the hill, but I was whooped. I went to the hotel and took a long nap. I woke up at 8:45
thinking that I would be late for soundcheck (which usually ends at 7) I arrived at the Cellar Lounge at 9 and the
sound system was still not ready, so we ended up without having much of a check. I really enjoy sound checking. It is my
time to try out new songs and work on new arrangements for old ones. I rarely sing at soundcheck because my voice is
usually tired from the night before and I am not warmed up enough to push my voice. We were happy to hear that the tiny
ceilinged Inferno(the usual steamboat club we play at) had been remodelled and that this show was going to be at a
place we had never played before. I had imagined that it would be much larger than the inferno. I could not have been
more wrong. I had about four inches of headroom on the stage and there were two giant pillars right in front of the
stage that blocked the view of a great deal of audience members. The place was packed and incredibly hot, so hot in
fact that I changed the name from steamboat to Steambath. We had a really cookin? set which included a lot of
improvisational jamming. we stretched a lot of the songs out. which is why the setlist was a little shorter than
normal. After the show we showered and got on the bus at 4am to begin the 8 hour trip to Telluride.
