For the uninitiated, let me explain that Spike Robinson was a swinging, melodic and beautiful saxophonist whose "elegant, light-hued, deftly swinging tenor playing drew on a lineage that ran from Lester Young through Zoot Sims to Stan Getz" (from an obituary published at http://www.jazzhouse.org/gone/lastpost2.php3?edit=1004533565)

For this session he was teamed up with Scottish piano star Brian Kellock, who is rated one of the best in the UK but, probably due to his relauctance to relocate from his native Edinburgh, really hasn't gained the attention he is due. Also on the programme are two stalwarts of the Aberdeen jazz scene, bassist John Hartley, sadly no longer playing due to ill health and Bill Kemp, who is still swinging, at the drums.

This recording features some great commentary from Spike between numbers as he displays his encyclopaedic knowledge of the great American songbook, digging up some less-often play gems.

This is the first time this recording has been shared, other than with close friends.
