Spirit
1968-11-xx _ Los Angeles, California _ Whisky a Go Go _ (M1-AUD)

~*~ Carefully remastered fixing various issues, without EQ ~*~

Mono source tape :::
01-[06:09] It's All The Same ->
02-[05:11] Fresh Garbage
03-[03:07] New Dope In Town ->
04-[03:00] Apple Orchard
05-[03:08] Water Woman

Stereo source tape :::
06.[22:49]- Tunji

Total Time ::: 43:23

::: Quite fine AUDs for the period. Check samples for love it or leave it approbation.
::: Warts: Some rushing hiss thruout. Fixed dropouts & dullspots but surely missed a few. Some tape drag problems in 1st minute of #1.
::: Spirit played the Whisky A Go Go October 31st & November 1st & 2nd, 1968.
::: Whisky a Go Go location (for trax 1-5) confirmed by a comment from Randy in #3 intro.
::: #6 is the John Coltrane tune. It's a different master source tape than the rest & was recorded with stereo equipment.

Recording Information ::: Original upload by 38f as 1st generation tape -> equalizer -> CD-R -> EAC -> wav -> flacs. This is from the 2013 slashdog reseed as CD-R -> EAC -> Flac6.

Remastering (2015-09-13) ::: flacs -> wavs (TLH) -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, pitch (speed) fixes (#1-5 -1.5% & #6 +1.1%) with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2015-09-19. Further remastering notes ::: While noted as M1, the sound is not indicative of M1 recordings. #1-5 had extreme offset problems - 31 cents - fixed so I could work on repairs. However, that section was originally MONO (obvious when the channels were lined up) & in the end I ONLY used the right channel, as it didn't have the huge number of clunking capstan(?) noises that the left did & was clearer with much less distortion thruout. #6 is stereo, a different source tape, & possibly a different night.

Line-up ::: Randy California - electric guitar, vocals // Ed Cassidy - drums, percussion // Jay Ferguson - vocals, percussion // John Locke - keyboards // Mark Andes - electric bass, vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 178 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders & to 38f & slashdog! A lot of appreciation to bpthree for the steady flow of info & corrections on Spirit-related matters (and more). ::: Corrections welcome ::: Been meaning to get around to this for a couple of years... Sounds a lot better than it did, far fewer distractions, much steadier. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
