the third time i've seen the staves this year (and i'm booked to see them a fourth time next month)

and at last, fantastic sound!

no more echoing drums bouncing around inside a (pandemic-necessitated) half-empty room

so good to finally hear this crack band at their best

definitely a slicker, less folky sound on the back of the unfortunately congleton-ed third album

but the synthy tics and flourishes that so bug me about that producer's work are mostly shorn away for the live incarnation

(and the band have already been into the studio to re-record stripped-back versions of a bunch of the 'good woman' songs - so maybe it's not just me)

they're in great form anyway - comfortably at home at a festival they've played many times before

the sun is blazing - the crowd are very happy - and all at least momentarily seems well with the world

enjoy
