::: So-so AUD but I find it digestible. Check samples for intake analysis or to put a little twang in yr ears.
::: Warts: Slightly distant with some quite audible AUD. Playback VERY slightly oversaturated thruout. Occasional taper/mike noises. Relatively fast remastering so there're still some dullspots & other imperfections, but it should cut many people's mustard, especially those who like it a bit spicy. Some recording volume fluctuations by taper, not all fixed. Little warble on #24 (batteries dyin'?).
::: Really, ALL thanks should go to the French Gentleman for tapin' & sharin' & DIMER unclemeat for layin' it down!
::: Recording had date & venue but no city, but SG says he's in Grenoble at a university & goofs on the name & after a lotta searchin' I sorted it out!
::: Setlist clearly needs help. I'm certainly no namer of instrumentals... Have at it!

Recording Information ::: unknown cassette recorder & microphone(s) -> master audience cassette tape (stereo or mono?) -> original taper's 1st generation mono reel-to-reel.

Playback 2013(?) ::: 1st generation mono reel-to-reel -> Edirol UA-1EX interface -> Cool Edit -> wavs -> flacs.

Remastering 2014-02-xx ::: flacs in TLH -> wavs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -1.1% single pass speed fix after spectral analysis & pitchpipe verificationNO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2014-04-05.

Line-up ::: Stefan Grossman - acoustic guitars, vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 017 ::: Thanks to the original taper (The French Gentleman) & the one who helped keep it alive & shared, DIMER unclemeat! ::: Corrections welcome ::: WARNING: Biased, opinionated blather... proceed reading at yr own risk ::: Only a few solo Stefan Grossman shows have ever been on DIME. In my opinion this guy has made some excellent music - 3 or 4 quite solid solo albums, with 2 or 3 great(!) songs on each of many other early solo albums. He also did some outstanding duo work with Renbourn, whose superlative guitar playing was complemented pretty well by Mr Grossman's more clinical approach. Then, of course, Stefan made one of the finest pieces of wax EVER to hit 33&1/3's - "Crosscurrents" - along with Danny Kalb of the Blue Project. That was the pinnacle of Grossman's songwriting prowess & guitar approach for me. (What one would give to be able to hear a live Grossman/Kalb show from around the release of that album...). Possibly due to the lack of early recordings, his choice of material for his live sets that I have heard would generally not have been my choice. The 2CD collection that came out in 2004, "Those Pleasant Days", did pretty damn well for a comp (not usually my bag), reissuing the rather splendid album, "The Ragtime Cowboy Jew", with a superb cross-section collection of his more ethereal work; a set really worth seeking out. In my opinion, which many (or most!) of you might be WELL advised to ignore, Stefan has an overabundant propensity for extensive dialog & 'humor' between songs - you will find about 25% of the time here is filled with such. Along with those characteristics, both well represented here, we get to share his sensitivity to what was going on in the club (bar?!) when he feels some folks are not paying attention, or distracting others. Now I can certainly sympathise, particularly as a frequent audience member whose primary objective is to hear music & not to socialise, but he lectures & lambasts them directly from the stage, which has always tended to ruin a show for me (more than the noisemakers). And then, the car trips with Bert Jansch & Nigel Portman-Smith discussing their history in Conundrum & tellin' Stefan stories. All that said & done - on to the music. A cross section here to be sure - some winners & some standards. Reckon someone can easily fill in the missing song titles. Stefan is still a few years shy of his more slick guitar presentations & I must say the guitar sound is very enjoyable indeed. At the time of this recording, he was in the midst of a rather prolific period with "Bottleneck Serenade" (1975), "How To Play Ragtime Guitar" (1975), "Acoustic Music for Body & Soul" (1976) & "My Creole Belle" (1976). The track markers are arranged so you can listen to a song & then jump directly to the start of the next one if you would rather ingest without dialogue. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
