MISC NOTES:
The doors of the 930 Club were held for an abnormally long time. 40 minutes or so after the scheduled opening time, eager fans finally began flooding across the threashold to the dinging sounds of their scanning tickets. The opening act was the local reggae group, "Zedicus," (I did not record the opener) who were predictably late to the stage, but who's performance was at one point bolstered when they were joined on stage by Ethiopian music legend, Mohammed something (I couldn't understand what they were saying when they said his last name in introduction). After they left, club staff and roadies quickly prepared the stage for the headliner. The crown grew very anxious when at 9:35 (ten minutes before Stephen Marley's scheduled start time) a DJ showed up and started playing reggae / dancehall classics. The hype-man / DJ played for an hour, pushing back Stephen Marley's start time by over 45 minutes, but when his band did finally take the stage, the crowd was amply rewarded for their patience. Following a short confusion caused by technically difficulties (blown amp? dying microphone? I couldn't quite diagnose the issue), confusion which was covered nicely as the band played on through the repair, the show went off beautifully. The band played for over two hours as Stephen hosted onstage a revolving cast of his children, his sister Cedella Marley, Javaughn, Jonathon, and Mr. Cheeks all of The Ghetto Youths Crew, and Spragga Benz, who's high energy stage presence was a mainstay of the show from "Iron Bars" onward. Not counting these periodic additions, there were seven musicians on stage throughout the performance. The music went uncharacteristically late for 930 Club, as the show lasted until nearly 1am.
