notes:
-wasn't familiar with Eric's work coming into this one, but Mike Stern in town I'm there for sure! Turned out being mainly jazz fusion from the cd "Eclectic
Guitars" they put out together - real good - I thought it was worth the $25 just for 1st 3 tunes clocking in at over 45:00! "Austin" is a solo Eric tune
that is not jazz & has vocals - good blues rock - it's the only tune here with vocals, besides the 2 encores, which both had vocals.
-as for those missing encores, this is what I think happened: note the last tune of the regular set cuts abruptly - this is the very last notes of the tune
and my neighbor and his partner jumped up then and wanted to leave - I was not ready for this & in trying to get out of their way, somehow the pause button
got activated. I checked the levels in between last tune & encore & they were still going strong, but I didn't look to see if I was still rolling on the
counter. That being said, in my subjective musical taste universe (say that 5x fast!) the 2 encores were the least intriguing part of the show. The first
was a short Eric solo blues rock # that went about 4-5:00 & then they did a straight up version of Hendrix's "Red House" w/Mike on vocals that went maybe
5-6:00 to end it.
-the band was great - Mike & Eric just trading leads and licks, & Chris was as good on bass as they are on guitar, really! Been a big Mike fan since his
days with Miles - love his instantly recognizable tone & style. And Eric is a master of his instrument for sure - subtle, yet strong!
-I was about 15 rows up center on aisle, way fob! Sound is excellent! ("A-") Might have had my levels set a little too high (for once!), but no distortion.
-not a bad crowd for a Tuesday night - I think there were 400-500 perhaps.
-another Sonoran Desert Recording recorded, mastered and seeded by Matt23. Do not sell ever for any reason, but share freely in lossless formats only:
keep the gene pool clean!
-if you're into guitar driven music/jazz fusion with a touch of blues rock, don't hesitate on seeing these guys!
