Concert notes
-------------
* Steve's banter, jokes and stories. Great stuff! Especially
for the Steve Goodman lover. I took a shot at many of the
song titles. If not correct, they should be descriptive.

Before the second set, Steve has a can of V8 vegetable juice
on stage. It becomes the focus of a lot of humor in the second
set.

One day in January, I was watching Arlo Guthrie on PBS. On
came Steve Goodman. That's when I found out that
"City of New Orleans" was Steve's original song. It was also
the first time I saw Steve and I was immediately entranced.

I just loved his performance. Then, I found out that he was
going to be playing on my campus. I brought my Panasonic
tape machine that I bought for the sole purchase of recording
The Grateful Dead on 8-6-74.

My second time recording a show was this performance of
Steve Goodman's show at Stony Brook.

If you are a Steve Goodman afficionado, this show is most
definitely for you. For anyone who loves good music,
great heart and great humor and showmanship, I have little
doubt that you will also love this show.

Caveat emptor
-------------
It took me a while to get the levels right. The first disc
does have a lot of tape hiss and the levels go up and down.
There's some some good humor and good playing on disc 1, so
I think it will still be enjoyable for many of you.

Also, the applause and laughing is prominent. It was all
around me, and from me. I had a heavy duty cough, as well,
so, yep, that is my cough that I tried very hard to suppress
only for it to come out less frequent, but stronger.

Listening to disc 1 right now, it sounds a lot better than
the way I just described it.

Set 2 starts on Disc 2 and is much better quality. Between sets
I was able to move closer to the stage and got a much better signal.

I also got better at the controls, so the second set until the end
is better sound quailty.

With all of that, I have to say that this is one of my favorite
shows in my collection. It was fun, Steve Goodman was (and is)
hilarious, the songs are terrifac - his and others - and he played
like a son-of-a-gun.

After a fun two plus hours, the last 10 minutes are very poignant and
passionate. He plays four great blues tunes from some blues greats
and the songs are powerful and beautiful.

With all it's zits and warts, I still feel that this show is
a winner.

Enjoy!
