Steve Vai - 2013-09-24 Alte Seilerei, Mannheim, Germany AUD

After complaining about guitar noodling at the Finkenbach Festival, I might not have been the guy you'd expect to meet at a Steve Vai show, but hey: He is not s regular noodler, he is the Flying Spaghetti Monster in person.

If you're getting tired of watching his finger technique (after 15 sec or never), you can still watch his foot-, tongue-, hat- (yes), face or butt-technique - or just listen to the weird pompous music. He never lets you forget you meet a guitar god (sorry: FSM), especially when the song outros seem to be longer than the actual songs.

Vai did his best to entertain the crowd and was pretty funny sometimes - but in the age of youtube he'd better not tell the same jokes every evening. The improvised ones were better anyway. And, oops, he 'remembered' having been in Mannheim with Frank Zappa in 1982 - but forgot to mention this was the infamous Zappa show which stopped after 3 songs (heavy rain & angry maestro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P93VZP0YcbE ).

Never mind. The band, as often: Before the show you think "Who cares about some no names", after the show you find yourself googling for the great Dave Weiner, the crazy Jeremy Colson and the mighty Philip Bynoe.

The sound is good though slightly distorted. I recorded ~ 3 meters from stage, more or less centered (people who have been at the "Alte Seilerei" know why: the frekking metal post). The acoustic parts had a very low level which I corrected a bit.
