Steve Vai

Florida Theatre Jax FL 24/96
Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Tour

The details:

Center of the hall within the first 10 rows Tascam DR-40 > SDcard > CDWave > Audacity > TLH for Flac

In Audacity I raised each trax 1.0db as I anticipated Vai being a very loud performance and wanted to ensure my levels from peaking so I recorded low with my second copy even lower. The DR-40 allows you to record dual stereo files. First group at a set level and another negative (or positive) level below that determined by me in the settings.

If you would like to resample to something else (Audacity is free) feel free but do not sell this material. I offer this 24/96 as more and more audio players support 24/96 & flac playback for that matter so no need to convert.

The show:

I got there early but had trouble when I set my recorder to start hitting the wrong button in the dark before hitting the Hold button. This caused me to miss the part were he comes out decked out in laser glasses & hat- so maybe thirty seconds might be missing.
Great seats for a great venue and only a moderate turn out so not much issue with crowd noise.

I do not know this artist except for back in the day with Zappa. Therefore I will need help with a setlist as I know none of his tunes/music. There might also be an issue with the splits though I believe I did a good job on those in CDWave.

The show was a multimedia presentation. He had video on a big screen and would interact with it from time to time throughout the entire evening introducing fellow guitarists and playing guitar sync'd to them.
The last tune or so he came running down the aisle w/roadie right beside me to play into the audience- so you will hear the sound change as I tried to hide my recorder. It was just a row or two from me when he strapped his quitar on a blond chick and proceeded to play with it on her (spooning one might say).
The only other alternating sound change would be from having to get up and allow others into their seats.

Why would/did I record the show- mostly because I thought someone like you would appreciate hearing it. I love music and really enjoy the experience of attempting a good capture.

Otherwise decent sound and levels throughout on a performance of some 2 + hours. This man loves what he does, enjoys performaning and is an insane guitarist.

Hope you enjoy!
