Tapers Notes:

Steve Winwood plays the final night at The Greek before an enthusiastic
crowd. A pesky cord caused a few short drop outs which I fixed. A low gain
FM feed was used mixed into the tape to make a more interesting mix but with some
low grade static.

The song selection was identical to some of the East coast gigs. The breadth of
Winwood's career is too vast to cover in the space of a single concert, so
it was understandable that the 64-year-old rock legend focused on just a few of
his musical guises. Winwood is four years removed from his most recent LP, 2008's
"Nine Lives," but he still played a generous portion of the record, with low key
numbers like "Fly" and "At Times We Do Forget," "Dirty City" proved to be a highlight,
with Winwood stepping out from behind his usual B-3 to do an extended guitar solo.
Otherwise, Winwood stuck mostly to his 1960s material, starting the show with a casually funky
"I'm A Man" and ending with his other Spencer Davis-era favorite, "Gimme Some Lovin'."
Winwood remains an unassuming frontman, saying little to the audience beyond a simple
"very nice to see you again." There was no bass player, and Winwood used an old fashioned
B-3 with Bass Peddles to play bass, in the fashion of Jimmy Smith. His feet were all over
the place.

Percussionist Cafe has recorded or appeared with Chuck Mangione, Steve Khan,
Danny Gottlieb, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Randy Brecker, Roberta Flack,
Gato Barbieri, and Michael Franks.

Paul Booth is multi-dimensional performer Paul and has performed with Riverdance
Eric Clapton, Basia, and Jane Monheit. He is a regular at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club
in London

Guyanese-born drummer Richard Bailey played with Jeff Beck on "Blow By Blow" and has
never taken a drum lesson and has worked with Steve Winwood since 1992
