Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
Starlight Theatre, Kansas City, MO
August 1, 1989

Sony D-6 with Sonic Studios, recorded from center aisle seat, 6th row>my cassette copies (definite 1st gen, I attended the show with the taper and sat next to him)>Creative>CDR>EAC>FLAC>this torrent. Sound samples provided.

This transfer was made for this torrent. ALL other copies of this show are either from 1) Master cassettes>my cassettes>DAT>wav>CDR or 2) a higher generation cassette copy. There are NO circulating transfers directly from the master, nor are there any true 1st gen transfers.

Excellent audience recording with little crowd noise. At this time, Starlight had not been remodeled and was open air behind the stage. These seats are VERY close to the actual stage and there were no amp baffles. The amps onstage come through along with the house sound system giving a rich tone to the recording. Sound samples provided for the skeptical. I have listened to this recording (not from these tapes, from copies) more times than I can count and I find this to be a show one can enjoy over and over as the performance is quite good.

Based on overall performance and sound quality, I would recommend this show as essential to any good 1989 SRV collection – it’s one of the best of this tour. Highlights are many, but include Mary, You'll be mine, Commit a Crime, Solo on Cold Shot, CSW, Travis Walk, and an incredible Voodoo. This was during the period where Stevie sat on the edge of the stage to play Riviera P. as an encore if the crowd was lucky.

PLEASE NOTE: I am seeking the Starlight Theatre July 16, 1990 show. ALL copies I have seen are actually this 89 show. Please post it if you have it. Also note that there is no such place as the “Starflight” Theatre and that Stevie did not play “Sandstone” Ampitheatre in 1990 (errors found in some SRV books).

Band:
Stevie Ray Vaughan: gtr, voc
Chris Layton – drums
Tommy Shannon- bass
Reese Wynans – keyboards
I have this real vague memory of horns walking out to play just on "Crossfire," but I can't verify it, nor can I tell if it is horns or keys on the tape. If horns, names unknown.

Setlist:
House is rockin’
Tightrope
Mary had a little lamb
Pride & joy
You’ll be mine
Commit a crime
Supertition
disc 2 (plenty of time on the disc, but the next 4 songs run together)
Cold shot>
Couldn’t stand the weather> (includes band intros)
Life without you>
Travis walk
Encores:
Crossfire
Voodoo Chile (a slight return)
Riviera Paradise

note: If there is a little duplication of crowd noise right after "You'll be mine" it is because I had to redo the wav file for that one song only as there was some sort of odd diginoise in the middle.
