I'm pretty sure that this is the entire concert.
Sound quality is vg+ to ex- IMHO, as always.
Your mileage may vary. 8-9/10.

Wow, where should I start with this one ? There are several
questions about this show that I hope you SRV fans can help
me answer. I got this tape from a good friend ~ 15 years ago
and he told me that he got it directly from the taper and that
it was first gen. The date on the tape says 10/12/1984 but
according to a SRV setlist site on the web, Hofstra University
was the venue for the show that occurred on 10/12/1984. The
announcer in the intro says "Hello, Pittsburgh" so I'm sure that
we're in Pittsburgh. The venue is almost certainly the Syria Mosque
(RIP) ; I saw SRV once there in the 1980s with his brother opening
for him. If anyone has a ticket stub or other evidence for this show,
that would be very helpful.

The tape is problematic. Whoever taped the show used a pretty good deck
but it suffered from a loose right channel wire (or some other malfunction)
which caused the right channel to cut in and out a LOT during the show.
The listening experience was very unpleasant so I used a splitter to
convert the poor "stereo" recording to a left channel monaural recording.
Both channels work but they're left channel. This improved the sound
tremendously. There are a few pops during the recording that I couldn't
remove without erasing music so be forewarned. The pops could also result
from a rotating mic plug. Who knows ? There was a tape flip which I welded
so those are about the only sonic problems that I can remember. I converted
the tape to CD at a fairly high recording volume but there's no distortion
and no hiss to speak of. The signal is strong. Clear instruments, vocals
are almost always clear. What little stage banter there is is hard to hear.
The setlist is great and so is the performance. Virtually NO audience chatter.
This is ALL I know about the history of this tape. If you have a better
sounding copy of this concert, by all means post it ! I'm just trying to pay
back the great trading community here. Thank God for the mighty Dime !!!

Finally, please don't buy, sell or convert this show to mp3 or any
other lossy format. Please seed this as long as you can. Please trade
this freely as this show is probably uncirculated. This concert will
be a welcome addition to any SRV fan's collection. I'll post a sound
sample to help you decide if you want this. Enjoy the show...
