The Lostbrook Strawbs Collection Volume 6

This was the Strawbs third and final night at the Lone Star before departing the NY area. In less than two weeks, they would be back for several performances in the vicinity, including a final appearance at the Lone Star to conclude their mini-tour.

Highlights of 1985-04-04 Early Show:

We continued to puzzle over the mix - "Where is his voice coming out?" "I don't know but they better boost it."

John Hawken (Strawbs keyboardist 1973-1975) was in the audience.

"Something for Nothing," was dedicated to "all the agents and managers in the business."

"Josephine" was introduced as "a song of drunkenness and debauchery." You'll also hear Dave's opinion of American beer. A disgruntled fan interrupted and demanded "something obscure" for his $12. He left, to the benefit of us all. After the song, Dave explained where he's been for the last seven years.

Highlights of 1985-04-04 Late Show:

You may notice a few cuts during the introduction and between songs. My friend Andy was in attendance, and he took pride in occasionally sabotaging my tapes. On my Joni Mitchell tape, (LBTS Vol 59) Andy sang a horrible imitation of Joni directly into the microphone. On this night, he slandered me with some truly disgusting accusations. I edited these out because he really went overboard this time. You might wonder why we put up with him. He was a lovable, mischievous character and perhaps more importantly, he ran our local Ticketron.

As usual, the late show was the more interesting set. The mix was better, and seven songs were played that were not in the early show.

After "Something for Nothing," Dave pointed out a "typical example of a British rock drummer throwing up discreetly on the floor behind the kit while nobody notices what's going on."

"Blue Angel" returned to the set, even though it "takes three years to sing." Unfortunately, they never did get the guitars in tune, even after a false start.

"Heavy Disguise" was dedicated to the bar staff, a reminder that the bar was front and center to the stage.

"Lay Down" included sing-a-long instructions.
