boombox's notes october 2016:

As for the band, well, it's the Strawbs - you are guaranteed to get fine songs, well-played with great harmonies. In two hours, they took us on a roughly chronological journey through their back catalogue, each song introduced with some sort of humorous anecdote from Dave C. It's hard to believe it's nearly fifty years since 'All Our Own Work' was recorded and the band no sign of slowing, with another prog cruise already booked for 2018.

As to the recording, this was as a new venue for me - a very small and intimate converted chapel. I was a little dubious of the speaker "stack" ie a pair of monitor speakers either side, especially as I was sat directly opposite one four feet away. However, house sound was very good, the only problems being an earth problem with Chas' bass, which caused some quite nasty bits of static in the first set. The recording is pretty good too with minimal crowd interference throughout. I did reduce the applause levels a bit and had to use a bit of compression to be able to bring up the overall volume. I have, however, not played with the levels of between song introductions which are pretty low. As usual, I can make available my 24 bit files to anyone who wants to remaster.
