Tiny Town: Lossless Rarities (aka the subdudes’ podcast for November 2008)
(Tommy Malone, lead guitar and vocals, and Johnny Ray Allen, bass, both of the subdudes; Pat McLaughlin, guitar and vocals; and Kenneth Blevins, drums, of John Hiatt’s band, the Goners)
recorded live at various locations
1996-1999

This collection attempts to bring together all unreleased original songs by the band. The full shows from which these tracks are drawn have circulated among a few collectors for years, however this collection was compiled by Richard Russell for the subdudes’ podcast (http://www.subdudes.com/podcast.php). It is presented here in lossless format with permission. (The podcast is available only in mp3 format; this flac collection omits the between-song introductions by the podcast host.)

All recordings, except the last bonus track, are unreleased original compositions that were omitted from the band’s 1998 self-titled debut. Some of these were performed regularly, while a few are known to have been performed only once or twice. More than two dozen Tiny Town shows were reviewed to pull together the best circulating versions of the songs. (The bonus track is the band’s “theme song” that was included on the Tiny Town CD; this live rendition is from the band’s inaugural gig.)

Note: all songs from soundboard sources. Tracks 1 and 7-10 are from sourced from the master soundboard DAT; Tracks 2-5 and 11 are from either a master cassette soundboard or DSBD>cassette>D – we can’t remember which; and Track 6 is from the master soundboard cassette (transferred using a Nakamichi CR-7A). All tracks were recorded and traded with the band’s permission. The original source for all of the recordings was the band’s sound man, who loaned the masters to either Richard Russell or a friend and fellow collector (RRoth).

No noise reduction was attempted.

One song that was included in the podcast, Look What I’ve Got, is not included here because it was released commercially on the “Get You a Healin’” various artists disc.
