Special Notes:
Generally we were lucky with the weather, as the report said it was to rain about all day...it stopped at 12:00 and the sun came out and eventually it became really warm...some raindrops came down every once and while in the afternoon, but nothing too bad or long - nothing that really could wet you! (A perfect condition for a rainbow as it happened during Canned Heat's set).
During Barclay James Harvest's set the drops were becoming bigger and more, and also the dry intervals became shorter. However, it finally started to rain 'properly' during the Status Quo set, about 20 minutes in (5th song or so - after they had played "Rain"!) and didn't stop until about 2am...
But after all, it could have been much worse, had it started in the afternoon!

TEN YEARS AFTER:
They opened the Festival. After "Angry Words" Joe points at some people on a boat (the festival area was right next to the shore of Lake Constance) "They get a free show on the boats over there!" and Leo adds "If I were on that boat, I'd have a beer in my hand ... and be listening to the music..that's what I'd be doin'!" and Ric repiles "No, he would be flat on his back!" After that Ric Lee came to the Mic, introduced the band and said they'd dash off to Hamburg right after the show and that they can't come out to the Merch stand right after the show like they usually do (the next day they had a show in Hamburg/Germany at 2pm and another one back in Switzerland in the evening).
I travelled to this festival by train, all the way through Austria, hence the title "Working on the RAILroad".
IDENTIFICATION of my recording: At the beginning of the Intro you can hear me say "That's working on the Road!"; and right before "Choo choo Mama" you can hear me say "Choo choo Mama!"

CANNED HEAT:
After 'Ten Years After' this was the second band that had also played Woodstock. Just like the other concerts this summer, Canned Heat consisted 'only' of the Woodstock Reunited Lineup: As always, on drums Fito de la Parra, but also Larry "The Mole" Taylor on bass (and open tuning guitar on "Red hot Mama" and slide on "Let's work together"), and Harvey "The Snake" Mandel on lead guitar. Dale Spalding has been with the band for about 2 years now and does the lead vocals, rhythm guitar and harp!
After "On the Road again" Fito welcomes the crowd with "Thank you and welcome to that wonderful party tonight!... This is better than Woodstock!" and repeats the Woodstock thing again after "Future Blues" and adds a comment about the rain; Dale adds "Not much mud, though!" and Fito answers "Much nicer. Not enough LSD, but you know, we will forgive you about that....purple acid!"
After "Midnight Sun" you can hear Dale saying "Check out the rainbow out there!" pointing to the lake (hence the title "Rainbow Boogie")
In the first verse of the "Boogie" Dale was singing "We're going down to Arbon, get'cha Boogie Woogie tonight".
The band came back after the Boogie for another encore when the after-show music was already turned on again (the Boogie was the first one...after "Let's work together" they all came to the front of stage, stood together, bowed and thanked the audience, but didn't go off the stage - they went back to their instruments for the Boogie). Note that Fito announces this second encore as "Midnight Sun" again when it really was "Christo Redentor" (They played "Midnight Sun" as the 4th song in the set already!"
IDENTIFICATION of my recording: After "Going up the Country" when Fito starts to announce "Let's work together" with "...it was our biggest hit...!" I say "Work together!" and then I join in with Fito when he announces the title of the song.

BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST:
This was the only band I didn't know much about before (Ten Years After and Canned Heat, and esp. Status Quo are favourite bands of mine! - oh and AC/DC too!) but I enjoyed them more and more during their set! Apart from "Hymn" which I had known before, "Fly away" (a new song) is the one song I enjoyed most! Still, it was a bit different, as they're more Prog Rock, the other bands that night were rather straight Rock and Blues-/Boogie-Rock.
Les welcomes the crowd with "Guten Abend!" (good evening) after "Ring of Changes", and after "Hymn" he says "Vielen Dank!" (thanks a lot)
After "That was then, this is now!" Les says "Thank you very much indeed. You've been a grat audience tonight, we hope you enjoyed the show. We hope you enjoy the excellent Status Quo a little later. But for now we're gonna leave you with another new song called ....!"...
IDENTIFICATION of my recording: 3:31 minutes into "Hymn" Les yells "Yeah!" which was quite loud through the PA, and 4 seconds after I growl "Aaaargh!"

STATUS QUO:
After a brilliant evening, Status Quo still had the energy (and the volume! It was another step louder than the bands on before!!) to put another log on the fire - they won the audience over before they even entered the stage (hear the chant and clapping during the intro (The Drone).
After "Rain" Francis welcomes the crowd with the obligatory "Hellooooo!" and then "It's a bit late so we won't mess around too much...!" and then "Hands up those who understand English" and subsequently asks "Yeah, why?" (...)
He announces "Don't drive my Car" with "This is a song we love to put in because it paces things somewhat. Why I'm telling you that I don't friggin' know"
Around that time (note: that was not long after they played "Rain") it started to rain full-time and we got soaking wet (hence the title "Rockin' in the Rain")
After "Beginning of the End" he tries to speak a few words, but is disturbed by lots of flies and insects (some getting into his mouth) attracted by the stage lightling....finally he spits, and stomps onto the stage and mumbles "I got him!" which resulted in quite a few laughters in the audience...he repeats the stomp, this time Matt hits the bass drum right in time, additionally; and mumbles "I kill that bug!"
Before "Living on an Island" he comments "Lovely evening. Oh it's raining as well, beautiful summer's evening. So that's why you got hats, umbrellas, flies, rain, ...and an English band...it's still a very good day for you, is it, really?!" (and damn, he was RIGHT!"
Before "Down down" Francis is alone on stage, playing a little jig before the actual intro...he must have started doing this a few shows earlier, only! great, methinks!
The encore was just their "Bye bye Medley" consistion of "Rock and Roll Music" and "Bye bye Johnny"...and a rather short version as well...however, they were allotted 90 minutes for the headliner slot and the clock said 88 minutes before they even started with the encore, so that's fairly ok...
After this the band said bye bye as they normally do, and Francis just waved with his hands for a few seconds only indicating the wave /La Ola like he loves the Swiss doing so, and suddenly everybody started doing it (I still have included this in my recording)....pure magic....and when they went off, the wave went backwards and the crowd became loud one last time for the Quo.
IDENTIFICATION of my recording: Right before Francis shouts "Hellooooo!" after "Rain" I shout "Hello!" as well. When he announces "Hold you back" with the words "This is something you normally do the intro to...." I say "Ooooohh!", then Francis mumbles the melody and I say "Hold you..." before he says "...and it's called 'Hold you back'"

BAROCK:
In the meantime it was pouring down and it was getting a bit cold also, but it couldn't stop me from going to the front again (I've left my front row space during the break), altough I wasn't as motivated as in the afternoon! Well, anyway, I made my way up to the second row and was set to enjoy the last concert of the night, a German, or better THE European AC/DC Cover Band from Germany called Barock...The only gripe, in hindsight was, that the vocals weren't quite up in the mix as it had been with the other acts, esp. Status Quo.
The intro was an audio version of the Train intro for "Rock 'n' Roll Train" that had opened AC/DC's Black Ice shows in the past 2 years, and they belted through most of the classics in their time allotted. You had to take a second look to see that this wasn't the original, especially the singer (an Englishman) looked quite like Brian (man, he also almost sounded just like him!)
Solid performance, also the Angus Strip was performed during "Bad Boy Boogie"
Before "You shook me all Night long" Grant said "Here's one for all the girls!", "The Jack" was announced "This is a song about a dirty woman!"; "Bad Boy Boogie" as "We got a song about Angus....Was ist das? (What is that)....it's a song about Angus!"
Grant announced "T.N.T." with "Arbon, are you guys Rock and Roll Tonight!? We got a song for you now we want you to join in! This one goes Oi!" and when the audience didn't reply too loud he said "Nein, nein, is scheiße!" (No, no, that was shite)
IDENTIFICATION of my recording: When Grant announces "Whole Lotta Rosie" he says "The Song is about a big fat woman! Whole Lotta what?" and I shout "Rosie!"
