About;
- For this exclusive event, the late jazz giant�s legacy band performs live, accompanying a screening of the cult favorite 1974 Afrofuturist sci-fi film "Space Is the Place", written by and starring Sun Ra. Produced by jazz musician, art curator, and former KQED producer Jim Newman, Space Is the Place was inspired by �The Black Man in the Cosmos,� a course taught by Sun Ra at UC Berkeley in 1971.

Filmed primarily in Oakland and San Francisco, the movie weaves together live concert footage and staged dramatic scenes with a plot concerning the salvation of black culture through space exploration, with Sun Ra�s music as the divine force that will save the people and usher them to a new future beyond Earth.
