Tad Robinson
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 4, 2013
Again this year recorded from KBOO FM 90.7 here in Portland. A volunteer radio station that has broadcast the festival each and every year. It has become a huge festival & we stopped going due to the big crowds. I now record all that I can & enjoy sharing with you all. As with any all volunteer station there are a few blurps along the way, which I have "fixed" as well as I can. Enjoy, twofthrs

Tad Robinson was born and raised in New York City, graduating from Indiana University's school of music in 1980. He played regionally with a group called the Hesitation Blues Band, then moved to Chicago, where he became the vocalist for Dave Specter & the Bluebirds, singing on their 1994 album Blueplicity. In 1994 he released his first album and three more have followed.
Robinson puts his stamp on the soul side of todays blues scene with Back in Style. Taking inspiration from the great sounds of Stax and Hi Records, Robinson literally oozes soul with his testifying delivery. Living Blues Magazine says, Tad Robinsons vocal style owes obvious debts to vintage-era Al Green and other soul sophisticates, but he blows harp with the rough-hewn exuberance of a postwar Chicago juker.
Otis Clay is on record as saying that when Tad Robinson dies hell be going to soul heaven, and hes not kidding Robinson has one of the richest and most powerful voices in soul and blues music.
Joining Robinson will be long-time cohort, guitarist Alex Shultz. The New York -born, Los Angeles -based Shultz has toured and/or recorded with a virtual whos-who of the blues/R&B world, including: R&B pioneer Hank Ballard, the late harmonica ace William Clarke, California bluesman Smoky Wilson, Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers (with whom Schultz appeared at Waterfront in 1995, along with drummer Jimi Bott), Lester Butler, Washington DC jump blues masters Big Joe & the Dynaflows, nu-swing band Royal Crown Revue, Sax Gordon, Sugar Ray Norcia, Mickey Champion, Frank Paris Slim Goldwasser, and Germanys BB & the Blues Shacks. Schultz has appeared on more than 40 recordings, including several of Robinson's.
