Talking Heads
June 1979
Sydney, Australia

--------------------------------------

Contrast clause:
This is a complete concert from the soundboard, as opposed to the recently uploaded partial FM recording at
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=582826

It is probably not the same concert, because the partial FM recording has the song "Mind" which was not played at this show.

This was originally seeded by arcorman on 27th Jun, 2012

I made this comment on the 2012 torrent:
I could have been there but I don't remember if this was the one.
Maybe this will jog my memory (it's a long time ago after all)
How DO people remember which gigs they were at? Maybe I've just been to too many!

… and after all these years I am still unsure.

The following information, which may be confusing until you read it all, is copied from arcorman's upload of 27th Jun, 2012:

Talking Heads at Sydney, AUSTRALIA c. June 1979 (?) contains 'Paper`;-was labeled "1978," but in that David Byrne clearly says "That song and this next one, and a couple of others, are from an album that's almost finished," and in that the main recording sessions for "Fear Of Music" were Sun. April 22 and Sun. May 6, 1979, this must be 1979; but were they back in Australia in July, after European festival dates (?);73:50 (A= 48:00; B= 25:50)

Arcorman, 27 June 2012:

Today I got some DVDs with wave data from Hans Devente again.

The first wave data I got, some weeks ago, where lossy (an other person did the transfer for Hans, he told me who maybe did the transfer from tape to mp3 and made waves out of them, because I ordered wave !!!!)

Anyway. This time I tested the first gig asap, and the result was : wave.

A picture of the Audacity analysis in included.

This Sydney gig could be the same gig as the well known australien "whiny" FM broadcast from Sydney 1979, but Hans´version is nearly complete and fantastic Soundboard !!!!!!!

So: once again many, many thanks to Hans for his archive and his work for me, us and Dime in the end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing I have edited:

I made one track out of the 2 parts of "New Feeling" and I made one track out of the "Crowd Encore" before the last track.

so "my" tracklist is:

1. The Big Country
2. Warning Sign
3. Love Goes To Buildings On Fire
4. The Book I Read
5. Paper
6. Electric Guitar
7. Stay Hungry
8. Heaven
9. Air
10. Artists Only
11. New Feeling (cut)
12. Found A Job (minus beg.)
13. Memories Can't Wait
14. Psycho Killer
15. Take Me To The River
16. "Crowd Encore"
17. Thank You For Sending Me An Angel

And don´t forget: SHARE & ENJOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for posting... I can't confirm, but I have this date listed as 08-June-1979, although there might have been more than one night in Sydney that time around. I believe this matches the stuff from the FM partial tape.

and surfling replied:
i made a closer comparison to the partial FM recording (still available here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=403015) (now http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=582826) and although they seem to be very close i don't think it's the same show. difficult call as the mix on both recordings is so very different but i did notice some differences on some of the songs. plus the fm tape has "mind" which is not on this otherwise seemingly complete SBD.
my guess is that there was another sydney show the day before or after the june 8 show, which would make sense anyway, as i can't see the band flying to australia for just one show.

anyone know any better or has other suggestions?

enjoy it anyway, it is a great recording!
