Bought my tickets for this one the moment they went onsale, and was rewarded with 2nd
row center. As it turned out, there was an onstage fill speaker aimed directly at me from
5 feet away, and the volume level was deafening. Plus, I forget my earplugs. Ouch! The good
news is, my mics held up tremendously well under the high sound pressure levels. I was
so close that I was catching some bleed off of Derek's amps onstage, and so there are a few
moments when the guitar is overbalancing the rest of the band. When the show started, the
ten seats in the middle of the front row were inexplicably vacant, and by the second tune
a bunch of folks had "traded up". The woman in front of me talked a lot, and even bought beers
from the beer guy. I was worred that it might interfere with the recording, but the volume
level was so high that she was completely obscured about 98% of the time. She also chose to be
the only person standing in our area, thereby blocking the view of Derek for half the people in
the venue, and as a result she got into a couple of verbal altercations between songs. I edited two
of those out, because they didn't interfere with the music. I left one in because Derek was doodling on
guitar and because you might as well have one example of what I put up with to bring this recording
to you :-) There are also a couple of quiter moments during acoustic numbers where you do hear her,
but again, 98% of the show is just fine. Amy Rich opened the show with an excellent 40-minute country
set, which I did not record, because they started her set 20 minutes ahead of schedule when I away from
my seat. She returned later and sang harmony vocals with Susan for the first encore number. I have
included some cell phone pics from both sets, as well as some better photos taken by someone a few
seats to my right who also passed along a copy of the setlist he obtained. As you'll see, the band
rearranged the tune order a bit near the end.
