Notes from XAVEL:
In 2023, during their first Japan tour in four years, coinciding with the release of the quadruple project “I Am the Moon,” the band performed at Tokyo Dome City Hall on October 20th. This second day of the live performance was recorded in full using a multi-stereo IEM matrix.

The recording process began with the uncompressed multi-ear monitor sources used by the band members on stage. Utilizing the familiar multi-IEM matrix source, the latest equipment was employed to edit multiple monitor sources, each with a different mix balance, into a stereo mix with exquisite composition and localization. Despite the large ensemble of 12 musicians, the result was comparable to a stereo soundboard recording.

As is typical for the band, known for their diverse daily setlists, the first three performances, including this one which opened with Joe Cocker’s “Woman to Woman,” featured songs from the same album without any repetition. The setlist was remarkable, with no overlapping songs, and the past numbers were entirely different on both days.

The familiar covers performed on this day included “Woman to Woman” (Joe Cocker), “Keep On Smilin’” (Wet Willie), “I Can’t Make You Love Me” (Mike Reid), and “Feel So Bad” (Chuck Willis). Highlights of the night included Allman’s “Dreams,” “I Wish I Knew” (Billy Taylor), and “Show Me” (Joe Tex), among many other unique selections. Notably, about half of the total setlist consisted of cover songs.
