Andy had left the Wangfords earlier in 1984, and still as Brad Breath had convened the Two Buttes Band a few months earlier, to gig a soundtrack album for a film called Loose Connections, which largely consisted of various other ex Wangfords. By December 1984 this had morphed into the Tex Maniax as a regular gigging outfit, consisting of Andy on vocals and guitar, with fellow ex Wangfords Howard Tibble on drums and BJ Cole on pedal steel, with Paul Reilley on bass, Al Stewart on saxes and Tim Renwick on lead guitar. This was a flexible line up which changed frequently over the next 12 months or so as other commitments allowed, and eventually settled as Irma & the Squirmas, with Melanie Harrold and Garry Taylor rejoining what was actually the original Hank Wangford Band without Hank!

This was obviously a Christmas gig from some of the songs played, and they were augmented by Melanie Harrold for a couple of songs, another ex Wangford who at that time was in the throws of forming her own band, which without climbing into our cold attic to check, started gigging in January 1985 with even more ex Wangfords!

I had already been to another gig that evening, now long forgotten, and arrived as planned for just the second set. Not that many people were there that night - it was a dismal pub at the best of times in a hideous area of North London - even worse these days!!

The playing was superb though as you will hear. Just listen to the timing in "Stay a little longer" which foxed a number of musicians passing through the band in later months!
